Corning Glassworks was born in Corning, NY in 1908. They developed a borosilicate glass that could withstand extreme temperatures. Originally designed as an innovative railroad lantern, Bessie Littleton inspired her husband Jesse to push into new markets when she successfully baked a sponge cake in one of the glass lanterns. The company launched the Pyrex line in 1915 with twelve pieces including a pie plate and the D-handled measuring cup.
Pyrex created oven-safe glass for baking, serving and storing. Perfect size for proofing bread, whipping up a batch of muffins, or piling high with citrus.
